This Mental "Trick" Might Help You Throw Harder

There's no question how important your mindset is to success.
I've seen players with all the talent in the world, throw it away because they can't get out of their own way.
I have also seen players get the absolute most out of their talent because their mindset is so strong.
Today, I want to share a mental "trick" I have used on myself and with players to get them to push themselves past what they think they are capable of.
I don't have a fancy name for it or even a name at all, so I'll share the concept.
Maybe after reading this you can come up with a name for me!
There are multiple ways to apply this, but I want to use the example of someone doing pulldowns.
With a drill like this I often see players throwing a little slower than what I think they are capable of. When I ask them, are you trying to throw as hard as you possibly can, the answer is usually yes.
To put it to the test, I'll ask them a follow up question.
What if you had to throw this next ball 90 miles per hour to play college baseball (previous throws was 88 as an example)?
I'll tell them, I want you to have the mindset that if you don't throw this ball 90, you will not have an opportunity to play at the next level. Whether it is true or not, doesn't matter.
There is power in putting something you truly want on the line, and making a player reach a little further for it.
Countless times I have seen guys throw the next one 91 or 92.
The lesson is this, when you are in the weight room, on the mound, doing a pulldown, or anything else, create scenarios in your head that will elevate your focus and intent.
When you're in the weight room doing a VBT deadlift, play the game.
"I've been moving the bar .78-.8 m/s. To earn a spot in the starting rotation, this next set has to be .85 or higher".
You will be amazed how much more you get out of yourself when you do this.
My challenge for you this week is to put this concept to the test in any area of your training you want.
Reply to this email with your results! I'd love to hear how it goes.
That's all for today.
See you next week!
