When it comes to drills, they are only as useful as the results they yield on the mound.

Getting good at a drill isn't the goal. This is something I have to remind myself of from time to time.

The goal is for the drill to help a player feel something positive that they can then start to feel in their delivery on the mound.

There is one "addition" or variation of many drills that you can add that I have found to be very helpful.

Others might have a different name for it, but I call it "deadman throws". These can be added to multiple drills.

The purpose of it is to promote looseness, rhythm, flow, and to help exaggerate different ranges of motion in the body during the throw.

Here are 3 ways to add these to common drills (Click drill for video):

1. Knee Throws

2. Deadman Ten Toes

3. Deadman Throws

These are just a few ways to implement this.

Remember to exaggerate the movements and how loose the player is.

Another good addition that can have similar benefits are figure 8's.

I hope this was helpful and that you can apply it to your training!

That's all for today.

See you next week!
