You are probably familiar with what a movement plot is.

But something people get wrong is looking at pitch movement in a vacuum.

In other words, evaluating pitches individually instead of how it plays with the rest of your arsenal.

Lets look at an example of 2 sliders that move exactly same.

But lets show 2 different fastballs paired with those sliders.

When you look at the slider off of the fastball in the first plot, it appears to have more north to south movement.

When you look at the slider off of the fastball in the seconds plot, it appears to have more east to west movement.

These 2 plots do a great job showing us how important the fastball (and the rest of the arsenal impacts how a pitch appears to a batter) is in relation to your off-speed.

(Inside Pitch Design "U" I dive deep into this very concept.)

How do I know which pitch to add or what the movement should look like?

How does my arm slot impact these shapes?

Hopefully this newsletter has sparked some curiosity and excitement to learn more.
