4 Batters Faced, 4 Strikeouts...Here's the Secret

This past Friday, we ran live AB's at the facility. 

Here in Arizona, the JUCO season starts very early, with the first game on January 24th.

With that said, pitchers need to be ramping up and building their pitch count.

I have one pitcher that crushed it on Friday.

He faced 4 batters and struck out all 4.

He's a undersized lefty that throws mid 80's with 3 off-speed pitches.

What was the secret to his great performance?

Commanding the inside fastball.

I don't care how hard or soft you throw, you have to pitch inside.

I actually would say crafty pitchers need to do this even more.

The reason being, when you consistently go soft away, fastball away, hitters get comfortable.

They crowd the plate, start leaning and cheating. 

If you can command the fastball in, when you do go away, it'll be more effective.

Despite throwing 81-83, this pitcher was tying up hitters and making them look foolish.

Trust your stuff. Pitch with confidence.
